What service does Konneksie offer?

Konneksie is an assistive technology app that provides a customizable, simplified user interface that enables individuals with cognitive impairment to utilize their smartphone in a way that correlates with their specific needs and disease severity. Konneksie addresses the challenges faced by individuals with cognitive impairment, including low tech literacy, memory decline, verbal and written communication impairment, impaired ability to focus when overwhelmed with stimuli and choices, and difficulty with multistep tasks.

Who is Konneksie designed for?

Konneksie is designed for individuals with low technologic literacy or individuals with cognitive impairment (such as Alzheimer's and related dementias) and their loved ones, caregivers, and trusted members of their support network. Over 5 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer's Dementia. Alzheimer’s and other dementias will cost the nation $305 billion according to data published by the Alzheimer's Association in 2020.(1) Konneksie can ease these disease and financial burdens by bringing individuals with cognitive impairment closer to the healthcare, support, and services they need to maintain independence and connectedness.

How is Konneksie different from other cognitive impairment apps?

Many mobile applications and smartphone technologies have been designed and marketed to delay the progression of dementia, promote independence and achievement of ADLs, and maintain communication between IWCI (individuals with cognitive impairment) and healthcare providers, caregivers, and loved ones. Paradoxically, IWCI are unable to engage with these same smartphone and tablet technologies due to industry-standard, complex user interfaces that exceed the tech literacy and language proficiency of the user. These factors limit the IWCI’s access to the very web- and mobile-based technologies designed to promote their independence and delay cognitive decline.

Konneksie solves these problems through a two-pronged approach: 1. its simple, customized user interface and 2. real-time, remote control of the IWCI's smartphone or tablet by a designated, authorized individual (e.g., a loved one or caregiver).

On which type of devices is Konneksie available?

For the Companion User (the trusted comapnion who helps the Target User through remote control of the Target User's phone): Konneksie app is available for smartphones and tablets with either the iOS (iPhone) or Android operating systems For the Target User (the individual with low tech literacy or cognitive impairment who receives help from the Companion User through remote control): Konneksie app is available only for smartphones and tablets with the Android operating system

What are the requirements to use Konneksie?

Konneksie is available on all Android devices and tablets. The companion software is available for Android and iOS. All you need to get started is to download the software to your device and complete the registration.

How many people can connect to a Target User's device?

There is no limit to the amount of authorized Companion Users that can connect to a Target User's device, although only one Companion User's device can be connected at a time.

Can I connect a patient to Telehealth/Zoom remotely?

Yes, Konneksie is developed to increase accessibility for those who cannot easily access Telehealth or video conferencing platforms like Zoom.

Is the Konneksie connection safe/secure?

Konneksie adheres to the highest security and privacy standards, including using RSA public/private key exchange and AES (256-bit) session encryption.

Why Konneksie?

The partners at Konneksie have made it their responsibility to assist individuals with cognitive impairment in using smartphone technology. We are striving to keep patients in connection with their families, healthcare providers, and community resources.
We, the founders of Konneksie, have been touched by Alzheimer's and feel this is a responsibility to give back to the community.

How will downloading the Konneksie app affect my phone?

For the Target User (individual with cognitive impairment or low tech literacy): After downloading the Konneksie app onto your Android phone, you will have the Konneskie simplified user interface as well as the ability to initiate and receive remote control of your phone by a trusted, designated Companion User. For the Companion User: After downloading the Konneksie app onto your Android or Apple iOS phone, the Companion User will see the Konneksie app icon on their homescreen. After completing the short, automated steps to become an authorized Companion User, the Companion User will have the ability to initiate remote control of the Target User's phone as well as send requests to the Target User to the intiaite remote control of the Target User's phone.
